The FAQ Book on Public Speaking

Who else is going to read the hot new book on public speaking and discover the secrets to being a great speaker?

I know I will.

By now, you’ve probably heard about the brilliant new book on Public Speaking which was launched last week entitled:

The FAQ Book on Public Speaking

It’s been compiled by Eric Feng over at “The Public Speaking Blog” and Irene Ang and Kelvin Lin. Eric’s a speaker and coach in Singapore and he was the guy who recently compiled a list of The Ten Most Influential Bloggers on Public Speaking.

I’d only read the introduction of the book before I felt compelled to come on here to blog about it.

The intro alone from the authors was entertaining enough for me to know that this is going to be a great book!

Gary Guwe President of National Unitversity of Singapore (NUS) Toastmasters had this to say of The FAQ Book on Public Speaking:

“As If You’ve Got A Personal Speaking Coach Seated Right Next To You, Guiding You On How To Become A Better Public Speaker!”

Grab your copy right now before those crazy Singaporeans decide to raise the price!

Cheers Guys!!!

If anybody needs me I’ll be in the bath with my copy. Where will you read yours?

Public Speaking Fear – Nancy Tierney

I just want to touch upon some things that Nancy Tierney from Unconditional Confidence posted in my comments section relating to a previous post I made about the fear of public speaking. Re-read that here.

In case you haven’t seen it I’m going to comment on some of things that she’s written about it here. She said:

“When an actor is focused on creating a character they aren’t able to really be self-conscious. They are focused on their “work” rather than on what people may or may not be thinking of them”. Continue reading

The Fear of Public Speaking

I found this post about the fear of public speaking on the “Unconditional Confidence” website. Nancy Tierney’s ranked #4 blogger on public speaking (I spoke about it in a recent post).

I decided to have a look at her website as I’d made a recent post on the fear of public speaking.

What I find interesting is that I have heard a lot of my actor friends saying the same thing as Molly Shannon. They find it hard just being themselves in front of an audience. Here’s a quick extract:

“Even Saturday Night Live comediennes can be horribly afraid of pubic speaking.Molly Shannon comedy film star and well-known contributor to Saturday Night Live, was a guest co-host on ABC’s The View today (damn, I miss Rosie on the show sooooo much), and she talked about how extremely nervous she gets if she has to make a toast at a wedding or speak in public in any way.

“I get so nervous that I can’t enjoy myself until it’s done,” says Molly, “It’s one thing to be a character where you’re disguised, but I’m much more nervous and shy as myself.”Read the full aritcle by clicking here. Great stuff! cheer Nancy.

Public Speaking with Confidence

I saw on the “Excel Beyond Excellence!” blog a great post about people who have confidence issues when it comes to public speaking. Sometime this blossoms into a fully blown fear of public speaking. So much so it’s actual medical definition is Glossophobia.

One of the things I liked about the article is that it says that a lot of the negative questions that we ask ourselves when faced with a situation like public speaking are actually “expressions of incompetancy under the guise of questions. Questions of Resources MOVE you FORWARD, not stifle you with worse outcomes”.

I’ve not actually heard it expressed that way before, but it seems to be pretty spot on with it’s observation.

Here’s a quick extract from the beginning on that post:

I’ve always enjoyed sharing about confidence. It’s such a simple concept yet so difficult to apply. (from what the audience shared, at least) It’s especially more so when applied to public speaking. Many people do comment that the image of possible humiliation by the audience do “bug” them…”

Brad Montgomery – 11th Most Influential Blogger on Public Speaking?

Following on from my last post about the Top Ten Most Influential Blogger’s on Public Speaking I think that Motivational keynote speaker, humorist and corporate comedian Brad Montgomery should have been mentioned.

I read his public speaking blog and, not only is it entertaining, but it provides some really useful info for new professional speakers, people just wanting to add a bit of humour to their talks and procrastinators.

Here’s an extract from a recent post:

“A recent article in the National Speakers Association newsletter Speak Up quoted a few of my pals; fellow humorists and motivational speakers as they discussed humor and being funny. One of the coolest parts of this good article as a list of Funny Action Items. I’ll reprint them in this blog…”

Cheers for that Brad.
